Sub -Project 1:   Pre-risk testing of high school learners

• Learners receive information & motivation about VCT
• Learners are tested if they are >12 years and engage the counseling process
• learner < 12 years must have a legal guardian’s consent and support
• Learners who are malnourished are examined by the nurse and referred for nutritional support including food parcels (for 3 months) and help to establish a food garden

2009 Update

LifeLine tested 1328 learners in 2009,VCT for learners (both on-site and off-site): of which 57 were HIV positive or  4%.   Of this number  32 or 2.4% had CD4 tests and required referral to an ARV clinic. 

91 or 7%  of the learners had marginal body mass indexes, and were given food parcels and referred to the nutritional project.
